Ring -- ring -- rriinngg!

The annoying sound keeps buzzing in your ears until you have no choice but to wake up from your slumber. Finally, the answering machine picks up, and you realize that it wasn't your alarm clock but your phone, and that means you're late.

You jump out of bed and land on an unpleasant surprise your puppy left for you. Your arteries start pulsating on your forehead like a drumbeat. You then jump in the shower, lather your head with shampoo and find out the water pressure is nearly nonexistent.

You have zero time left, so you hop out with a few new nervous twitches to accompany your throbbing blood vessels. You then grab your keys, put them into the ignition and, lo and behold, your car is completely out of gas. You are late for a meeting, you look like the bride of Frankenstein and you have to walk in the pouring rain to the gas station. Looks like this is turning out to be the start of a REALLY bad day!

Every once in a while, a bad day will hit you like a ton of bricks. On these gray days it seems like the world is slapping you in the face. You try your best to fight the magnetic curse following you, but it only seems to make matters worse. You feel like a comedian that just got booed of stage and pelted by a bunch of tomatoes. By the end of the day you're angry, frustrated, sad and insecure. Your head hurts, your back aches, your throat is dry, and all you want to do is crawl into a hole and never come out.

What if I told you I knew a few secrets that could help push away the rain clouds when they start forming and eliminate them from hovering above your head all day long? I do know and, the reality of it is, so do you. It all has to do with two magic words -- stress relievers.

Once your nerves get rattled it can be hard to settle them, but if you don't take a few minutes to let go of frustrations, chances are, they are only going to keep escalating. The result is a chain reaction of bad luck.

Once you gain control of stress you will be able to take on life's challenges one by one -- instead of letting them build up and break you down.

There's an old saying that I love and often repeat to myself when times are tough: “This Too Shall Pass.” When that doesn't work, you can try these seven ways to lift your spirits:

    1. After a long hard day, one of the best stress relievers is exercise. Get out there and sweat it out. It will release much-needed endorphins and help lift your spirit.

    2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. This helps you gain focus.

    3. Sing. Sing loud, sing hard, and rock out. This is a great way to scream away your frustrations.

    4. Treat yourself to a massage or some form of pampering after your rough day.

    5. Read inspirational quotes and sayings.

    6. Call a friend and ask if they would like to talk and walk. Talking and walking are two of the best ways to get it all out.

    7. Go out of your way to help someone in need. This helps bring your life back into perspective and reminds you about the things going right in your life -- instead of the things going wrong.

After all is said and done, there is no better cure for stress than laughter. Don't take yourself too seriously. As Charlie Chaplin once said, "A day without laughter is a day wasted."
